Distinguished Dissertation Award Competition

The International Society for Performance Improvement
is currently accepting applications for the 2009 Distinguished Dissertation Awards. These are an
initiative funded by the Research Committee aimed at
honoring excellence in student research.

To apply for the award, please submit the following:

• A double spaced two-page (maximum) cover letter describing a) your research, b) its alignment with one or more of Human Performance Technology Standards (available at http://www.ispi.org/hpt_institute/Standards.pdf), and c) the utility of the study for both HPT scholars and practitioners.
• A 350-word (maximum) abstract describing your study’s background, purpose, research questions or objectives, importance, instrumentation, methods, findings and conclusions. Please do not submit a references list or bibliography, though any citations should be included within the text.
• An emailed letter of recommendation from your faculty advisor addressing your study’s rationale (why your topic merited investigation) and value (the applied and theoretical benefits of the study). Please ensure contact information is available.
• Your current curriculum vitae and contact information.

2008 Recipients

Timothy R. Brock, PhD of Lockheed Martin, received the 3^rd place award for his study Training NASA Astronauts for Deep Space Exploration Missions: A Research Study to Develop and Validate a Competency-Based Training Framework and was awarded a $200 honorarium.

Kimfong (Jason) Lei, PhD of JetBlue received the 2^nd place award for his study Development and Validation of a Cross-Disciplinary Team Learning Model and was awarded a $300 honorarium.

Frank Nguyen, PhD of San Diego State University received the 1^st place award for his study The Effects of an Electronic Performance Support System (EPSS) and Training as Performance Interventions and was awarded a $500 honorarium.
